Abstract

In this article the question of dialectic in Gajo Petrović’s philosophy is analysed in the context of contemporary debates on the “Heideggerian period” of the young Herbert Marcuse and the very possibility of phenomenological Marxism. Petrović’s philosophical starting point was undogmatically understood dialectical materialism. During his intellectual development, Petrović departed from this idea, passed through the philosophy of practice, and ended up with thinking the revolution, at the same time dissociating his thought from anthropological humanism. Searching for an answer to his ontological-epistemological anthropological question, he turned not only to Marx and his followers, but also to Heidegger. His approach, like that of Marcuse, provokes many difficulties in relation to dialectical movement.
