Abstract

In the first part of his paper the author refers -to certain theoretical views
on modernization processes. He points out that most of the respective theories
do not consider sufficiently the various circumstances, traditions and social and
cultural factors of the countries which are in the modernization stage. This one-
-sided approach can also be observed in the view that local communities tend to
disappear in urbanized and industrialized societies. The author finds, however,
that local communities, though in a modified and untraditional form, appear in
modern society as well.
