Abstract
Professor Emile Sicard has written for our review a comprehensive study on domestic economic communities.
His study deals in particular with the traditional Yugoslav type of family
zadruga, describing the constitutive elements of the zadruga and the spread and character of related groups in other countries and regions of the world. Especially interesting are the author’s thoughts about the advantages which socialist countries were offered in the socialization of agriculture by the existence of family cooperatives and other types of communal units or their remnants both in actual rural life and in the minds of the rural population. In view of the importance of the subject, the author's great reputation, and the wide range of relevant questions raised by his study, the Editors have submitted
Professor Sicard's text to several Yugoslav experts on family zadruge: inviting their critical comments. Six contributions have so far been received from the following authors: Prof. Dr Oleg Mandić, Prof. Dr Bogdan Stojsavljević, Prof. Dr Slavoljub Dubić, Prof. Dr Cvetko Kostić, Prof. Dr Mirko Barjaktarovic, Dr Stipe Šuvar and Mr Ruža First-Dilić.
We also had available two other contributions on zadruge co-operatives, their remnants and traces, and other forms of the family in Yugoslav rural districts written by Dr Milovan Marković and Dr Vesna Čulinović-Konstantinovic. These nine contributions, of which Prof. Sicard’s is no doubt central one, wil form a separate column in our review and, we believe, will greatly help in investigations of the family zadruga. . . Any new contributions on the subject will be published in future issues of our review.
