Abstract

In this article the author analyzes the
results of two research projects carried out
in Zagreb, in 1990 and 1991. In the first
part of the article she compares living
conditions in Zagreb with those in other
towns and villages in Croatia. The results
show greater differences between village
and town life than between life in Zagreb
and in other towns. Towns have better
so-called general conditions of living, i.e.
the equipment of settlements, whereas
villages have somewhat bigger flats/houses.
In the second part of the article she
analyzes the letters sent by readers to two
daily newspapers on the subject of housing
reform. There was most outcry because of
the proposals of denationalization and
(re)privatization of flats and this issue
divided public opinion sharply into fierce
opponents and fiery advocates. Mousing is
usually closely connected to living status.
