Abstract

Transitional changes do not comprehend only the changes of the structure of society but
also those of its theory. Thereupon, the problems connected with the new social theory
make actual also the problems connected with the situation within the social sciences.
These problems are the most explicite and the most conspicious in the theory of education.
Whe considering transitional problems of the theory of education the authoress pays
attention to the functional and to the conflicting approach (theory) trying to give answer
to the question of their prospect. Pointing out that the functional approach in education is
directed towards studying the role and the contribution of education to the social system
maintaining - where she presumes the spontaneous social-cultural development of the society
and of education according to the meritocratic principles - while the protagonists of the
conflicting theories are turned towards examining the causes, the mechanisms and the
manners of society and education changes based upon the worthily opposite attitude, the
authoress was particularly occupied with the nature of values represented in education and
with their social promoters.
