Abstract

A systematic clinical examination of oral cavity in 61 patients with chronic cardiac diseases, in 46 patients with chronic nonspecific pulmonary diseases and in 93 adults from the control group was made. In chronic cardiac patients the finding of the cyanotic colour of lips, oral vestibula and bucal mucosa was significantly more frequent than in the control group. In chronic respiratory patients a statistically more frequent opacity and leucoplacia of bucal mucosa, as well as marked capillar pattern of the soft palate were found. The significance of these findings are discussed and it is concluded that it might be useful to continue with the study of the signs found in chronic respiratory diseases, because it seems that they had not been noticed before. Pathologic oral findings in the control group demonstrated in the tables can serve as an orientation of the oral cavity State in our adult population, mostly in older age groups.
