Abstract

An overview of methods used in the analysis of structures exposed to earthquake action is given. Older methods, some of which are currently outdated, are also presented. Recent methods are grouped, depending on approach used, in two categories: deterministic and probabilistic. Basic properties of these methods are described, and results obtained during their application are presented. The need to improve current analytical methods and regulations is emphasized, and some suggestions in this direction are given.
