Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to show our experience in the treatment of primary nocturnal monosymptomatic enuresis with desmopressin.
Methods: In this retrospective study, the examinees were 58 children aged 5 to 13 years, 32 boys (51%) and 31 girls (49%) treated with desmopressin for primary nocturnal enuresis in Požega General County Hospital, from 2008 to 2012.
Results: Treatment with peroral desmopressin (0.2 mg) lasted from 12-18 months. From among the total number of 42 children, 8 (1.0%) didn't achieve favourable therapeutic effect, six of them had relapses three months after therapy was stopped and two patients were still enuretic during the therapy. 16 patients were lost in the follow-up. 34 (80.9) children had good response on desmopressin therapy, meaning more than 90% dry nights monthly. Most patients were between six and eight years of age (24.38%).
Conclusion: The results confirmed good efficacy of desmopressin in treatment of primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis in 80.9% of patients in our study.
