Abstract

Based on insight into the corpus of scientific and professional papers in the 39 Proceedings of the Hvar Theatre Days published so far, we abstracted a possible typology of contributions for the history of Croatian literary criticism. The presented analysis showed the reason why the corpus of scientific contributions submitted at the Hvar Theatre Days, within the framework of topical and problem wholes they were dealing with in the last four decades, does not represent – apart from certain exceptions – a significant contribution to the study of the emergence and development of national literary criticism. In other words, a series of scientific conferences held up to now is very modest regarding contributions dealing with reviews/descriptions of work of individual literary critics, that is with literary-critical methodology. The paper calls attention to the fact that the reasons for that should be searched for notably in the scientific literature study, which hasn’t readily responded to the challenge of compiling a coherent written synthesis on this important genre, as well as in a weakened function and position taken by literary criticism in Croatian media and cultural space in the last twenty five years. Contributions regarding the description of Croatian theatre criticism and aesthetic/theoretical thought are mentioned only incidentally.
