Abstract

The paper deals with the topic of theatre and the visual in the proceedings of The Hvar Theatre Days published in the last forty years. The analysis is focused on set, costume and light design, but also on more widely understood visual dimension of theatre event such as relation between stage space and theatre architecture, stage and audience, theatre and fine arts, as well as theatre and text/history of looking/visual culture in general. The paper discusses the range and scope of topics on theatre and the visual, the professional profiles of authors who wrote about it, and the variety of methodological approaches. Finally, the paper offers an overview of potential topics and aspects for future studies of theatre and the visual.
