Abstract

In questioning his own attitude towards Ibsen’s dramatic writing, Branko Gavella in his text Belgrade – Oslo. Impressions from Ibsen’s celebration outlines the transition in reception from the fascination with Ibsen’s symbols to interpretational blindness towards their effects. Following Gavella’s insights, this paper shows that the transition away from light is woven into the very nature of Ibsen’s symbols and it also shows that the continuous transformation in the hearts of the symbols is a pledge of durability for Ibsen’s literary opus.
