Abstract

This article discusses the motivational impact Gavella had on theoretical and practical stage acting in his time, as well as today, regarding the Academy of dramatic arts. Gavella’s written opus is particularly noteworthy because it stems from theater and educational practices that strengthened the relationship between theater and The School (Academy of dramatic arts), which we consider the defining principle of the dynamic and vitality behind our theater life, i.e. the parallel crossroads of this very art.
This vital link no longer exists today, and the author warns us of the fact that the art college must not become a sinecure, and should instead serve as a kind of living organism that openly communicates with contemporary theater work.
The question of how to encourage a young artist to develop an active relationship with the contents of his work is precisely the subject that theater and The School should be answering today, as it is the core question behind contemporary theater life, for which Gavella’s thoughts prompt dialog more important than dialog on Gavella himself.
