Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to present the results obtained from the assessment of calculation and number processing which was conducted in four aphasic patients (2 patients with Broca’s aphasia, 2 patients with Wernicke’s aphasia). For the purpose of this research we selected 3 fields form the EC301 Calculation Battery: Calculation
procedures, Spatial abilities and Knowledge about numbers. Compared to the Broca’s patients, both Wernicke’s patients faced significant difficulties regarding calculation and spatial relations. All examinees have shown numerical knowledge and preserved abilities
to estimate magnitude and quantity, regardless of the type of aphasia. The importance of mathematical abilities should not be neglected since they are used in a wide range of everyday activities.
