Abstract

In this contribution the author tried to cast some light on the context in which reli-gious faith appears, in order to pinpoint those human needs with which it correlates. This investigation shows that religion is the answer to the fundamental human experience of finality. The author tried to specify religion by following Paul Tillich’s notion of »that which concerns us unconditionally«. Religion is that reality which completely overcomes a believer, giving him/her the unconditional, absolute answer to the question of meaning that overcomes his/her finality. By taking this insight as a starting point, the author tried to sketch a possible philosophical approach to the reality of religion and to propose some general guidelines for »philosophy of religion«.
