Abstract

StarFire is a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) developed by NavCom, a John Deere subsidiary company, which produces agricultural equipment. The main task of StarFire is to provide positioning service with Precise Point Positioning (PPP) method,
with global sub-decimeter accuracy. The system is very well designed and implemented and most of the work was done by NavCom’s
experts. When we talk about performance, although the requirements had been set very high, the manufacturers claim that they reached them. Also, a great availability of the signal and reliability of obtained measurements is achieved. Including GLONASS improved these achievements even more. Giant shadows and poor terrain configuration can still present a problem in obtaining good results. The
producers hope that Galileo, QZSS, Compass and IRNSS will further improve the system when they become fully operable. Also, they
hope that the progress of the PPP method will also improve system performance.
