Abstract

Orienteering sport is a sport that combines orientation on the map and racing using a map and compass. Contestant at the
start of the race get a ticket (which looks quite similar to the topographic map), points are marked on the map with their ordinal number beside point. Also these points have their nominal numbers to be easily distinguished. There are descriptions with printed oridnal numbers and nominal number of controls attached with the map.Descriptions also more detail describe the location of control symbols. There are four branches of orienteering sport. These are orienteering, ski orienteering, mountain biking orienteering and precise orienteering. In order to enable fair competition in the orienteering sport, there are some basic rules while drawing orienteering maps which make it the better. This article explains the rules of drawing maps such as scales for maps, the manner in which they are printed, the manner in which the symbols are displayed on the map and programs in which they are made.
