Abstract

Tooth loss happens mainly due to decay and parodontitis. The solitary tooth losses are replaced due to esthetic reasons, but the supporting teeth are mainly placed to restore function. Dental implantology is based on osteointegration principles where the functional load of implants is only possible when the connection between implant and bone is strong enough to withstand chewing forces. The specificity of bone tissue that constitutes our skeleton is that the intercellular substance content is much higher than the cellular part. It is composed of protein fibers, mostly collagen Type I, and nonfiber proteins and peptides spe- cific for the bone tissue.
