Abstract

W. W. I. brought about disturbances in the economic life of the city of Zadar. The author makes an attempt to show these economic disturbances through the fluctuation in prices. The article is divided into three parts. The first part describes the rise of prices of products under state control, the second looks at the rise of market prices. In addition, the article makes assumptions about the prices on the "black" market as a consequence of scarcity and state regulations. The article shows that the fluctuation of prices during W. W. I. was not uniform. During the first two years of the war the rise in prices is moderate while from the end of 1916 the rise in prices is drastic. The inflation that occured at the end of 1916 was closely connected with bad harvests which shows that the Austro-Hungarian economy was to a large extent dependent on agrarian production.
