Abstract

The paper attempts to provide information on current ethnologic and folkloristic research on Croats in Hungary. Primarily it concerns itself with research conducted from the Croatian side by ethnological and folkloristic institutions and by individuals. Data on themes and localities, the period of research, informants and recorders, types and quantity of notes – is summarized. The review includes ethnologic and folkloristic material in the Institute for Folklore Studies (Zagreb), the Ethnologic Institute of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Ethnological Institute of the Faculty of Philosophy (Zagreb), the Ethnographic Museum (Zagreb), as well as papers published in Hungary in the Croatian language. A bibliographic supplement and a list of documents provides the basis for a review of the results and problems of researching Croats in Hungary, which the authors offer with the intent of illustrating the material at our disposal today, at a time when we are approaching a more systematic study of the Croatian culture in Hungary.
