Abstract

Although migration of women is part of the overall migration process, the position of women is essentially different from that of men. Their labour is differently evaluated, and they receive different possibilities for employment and advancement. Wo¬men migrants can find employment in given industrial sectors – they are concentrated in certain processing and service activities where, regardless of their qualifications, they carry on the tasks of unqualified and semiqualified labour in difficult work conditions. They rarely receive an opportunity to obtain supplementary schooling or advancement. They constitute cheap and flexible labour, exposed to all the changes on the market. Restructuring and modernisation of the economy, as well as crises, effect them before they effect men. In general, during crisis foreigners are always the first hit and the first that are let off from work.
