Abstract
Persons exposed to extreme levels of stress and trauma frequently experience psychological and physical stress that are reflected in the impairment of personal well-being and reduced work efficiency. To avoid or reduce the effects of negative stress, a wide range of measures can be adopted as methods of prevention and support to individuals at risk in such populations by building up their psychological strength and by improving their psychological readiness for the performance of extremely demanding tasks.
The paper presents some of the key findings in this important area as well as the results of a multiple application of the Anti-stress Course in the Armed Forces of Croatia with focus on the usual theoretical notions on stress and its consequences, and also on the practical methods including teaching a selection of relaxation techniques. For reasons of confidentiality, the obtained results are only partially presented here, but they nevertheless supply precious information and an evaluation of the general applicability of the course.
