Abstract
Increasing demands of users regarding ensurance of the specified mechanical properties and working order of machine parts and products require a search of relations between the composition and microstructure and certain knowledge of residual stresses present based on good knowledge of the quenching process. The paper presents results regarding numerous residual stresses measurements on heat-treatment 42CrMo4 steel specimens with different masses. To measure the residual stresses, the relaxation method was used, involving gradual mechanical removal of the hardened layer in which the deformation of the specimen was measured by resistance strain gauges.
