Abstract
The site AS 4 Novi Bolman-Grablje was discovered in the archaeological field survey carried out on the route of the motorway A5, section Beli Manastir–Osijek, chainage 10+000 – 11+000, north of the Jagodnjak village.
The Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb carried out the trial archaeological investigation at this site. The investigation was directed by Dr Hrvoje Kalafatić, with Katarina Botić as the assistant, both from the Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb. The trial archaeological investigations carried out at the AS 4 Novi Bolman-Grablje site revealed that the site occupies a smaller surface than previously expected, covering the space between the chainages 10+200 to 11+000.
The trial investigations pointed to a prehistoric occupation of the site during the Copper, Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as during the Middle Ages. Archaeological features are concentrated in two clusters. The first cluster occupies the elevated position in the northern part of the site. The quantity of finds then decreases in the part of the site that is in a depression, and then the number of archaeological finds gradually rises again as one approaches nearer to the chainage 11+000, suggesting that the centre of the settlement is located at the site AS 6 Jagodnjak-Cerik north, or on the elevation east of the route.
