Abstract

Since its very beginnings, the Hvar Heritage Museum has invested great efforts in the maintenance and presentation, and especially in the restoration needs of Hvar’s Arsenal and Theatre. This work has resulted in a collection of artefacts, artworks, drawings, books, photographs and other types of documentation in one Theatre Resource. One much-appreciated result of this work was the exhibition “Hvar’s Arsenal and Theatre - Continuity and Renovation”, mounted in the Arsenal Galley in 2003, then in the Conservation Office in Split, the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb and the ARS Gallery in Milan. The exhibition was staged under the patronage of the Croatian Office for UNESCO, in cooperation with the Croatian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry for Public Works, the Ministry of Culture, Hvar Town, the Split-Dalmatian County and Hvar Town’s Tourist Association, and mounted by the Hvar Heritage Museum. The exhibition curator was Mirjana Kolumbić. The material was prepared by: Dr. Marin Zaninović and Mithad Kozličić, academician Tonko Maroević and Nikola Batusić, Goran Nikšić, architect, and Egon Lokošek, Nives Lokošek, engineer; professors: Mirjana Kolumbić, Milan Lakoš, Veljko Barbieri, Tin Kolumbić and Miroslav Katić. The aim of the exhibition was to present the past history and present state of this historic building, and to promote the need for its restoration, which has been achieved. From that time to the present day the restoration of the building has been in process. The Theatre’s Archive Resource was created from documents from the location Small Resource (Mali fondovi 3A), the Boglić-Bozić Archive in Hvar, the Đino Novak Archive and the Bučić Archive in Hvar. The Resource was formed between 2007 and 2011, and contains material dating from the 17th to the 20th century. The documents are written mainly in Italian and Croatian, although there are some volumes of documents in German as well. The Theatre Resource has been brought together and stored by the aforementioned curator. Besides the archive material which we present as an inventory below, the Resource also contains 2. Plans and drawings; 3. Manuscripts; 4. Books from the Bučić Resource and the Hvar Heritage Museum; 5. Libretti from the Bučić resource and the Hvar Heritage Museum; 6. Posters, brochures, invitations; 7. Photographs; 8. Artefacts and artworks. All the aforementioned resources, except that of the photographs, have been stored and catalogued. The photographic archive consists of 950 items and is in the process of being catalogued.
