Abstract
During the last ten years, there was an increased interest in the research of history of the socialist period. The trend is present in historiography, other humanities and museology, both in Croatia and abroad. There are more and more researches, as well as an accretion in the quantity of published literature on social and cultural history and the history of everyday life. Croatian historians have been following the trends of larger historiographies to a certain extent, and they have been trying to develop the freshness of themes and methodology which directs them towards interdisciplinarity. The same has been done by the museums which have organized or hosted a large number of exhibitions, many of which were a result of the academic and cultural cooperation in the post-Yugoslav area. Among the efforts to strengthen the research of the socialist period, there is also the establishment of the Centre for Cultural and Historical Research of Socialism (CKPIS) at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula in 2012. Its researchers have been focusing on history, ethnology and anthropology, musicology, history of literature and cultural studies. Ten years of the new wave of research of the Yugoslav socialist society, culture and everyday life is a period long enough for drawing a line and evaluating the state of the art. The paper presents the researched and under-researches topics, and suggests the future direction of the Croatian historiography on socialism. The author points out the need for keeping the bridge towards other disciplines that are involved in socialism research, as well as the bridge towards closer and wider international surroundings. The Croatian system of high education and academic employment should aim at a larger number of historians dealing with contemporary history, the period richest with historical sources.
