Marriage and family according to Gaudium et spes

Abstract

Although the Church has always been aware of the social importance of marriage and its divine rootedness, yet throughout history it has variously dynamized liturgical, legal and pastoral care for marriage and family. Biblical and theological foothold has never come into question, but the way of speaking about it has been differently verified. However, Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes has brought certain novelty and vibrancy in the manner of speech about marriage and family. In order to better understand the news of council speech about marriage and family in Gaudium et Spes, the author first explains the circumstances of the emergence of reflection on the institution of marriage. In the second part he presents the news in understanding the nature and dignity of marriage and family. Then the author considers the institution of marriage and family in Gaudium et Spes in theological-pastoral perspective. Finally, he makes reference to the post-council reflection of Pastoral Constitution on some major church documents.
