Abstract

State-owned agricultural land is still indeed an important, but to a large extent an
unused resource. However, private property management is the key for revival and
long-term development of the production capacities of Croatian rural areas. The state
has until now proved to be a bad manager of the land in its own property. Even worse
situation occurs in definition and implementation of the policies and measures aimed
at introducing a more efficient ownership structure and the use of privately owned
land. It is necessary to remove the causes of unfavourable structure of the agricultural
land used by agriculture farms. People who want a better life quality simply mustn’t
get closed within a vision of rural areas as a place of depression, fall, and decay. They
have to think, act and share a vision which promotes new hope and inspiration. A
vision of some individuals in the community will be different from the viewpoint of
others in many aspects. However, people in the community must look for some joint
elements and aspirations, and the future of rural areas belongs to those who are ready
to take demanding steps.
