Abstract

Eugen Pusić was a member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts for more than 35 years. The paper describes his role and analyses his functions in this institution. Pusić’s functions in the Social Sciences Department of the Academy included the post of Department’s Secretary; the position of Editor of the scientific journal Rad; the position of Head of the Cabinet for Legal, Political, and Sociological Sciences Juraj Križanić; the position of President
of the working group Law and Society – Basic Research; etc. He also worked on the documents through which the Academy addressed the public (he initiated the edition Croatia – Givens and Orientations, coordinated the project, and was an Editorial Board member; he was one of the initiators of the Declaration on Knowledge in 2002, etc.). Further, he was active in the Scientific Council for State Administration, Judiciary, and the Rule of Law (he initiated its establishment in 2004 and presented papers at 8 out of 11 round tables, followed by the books). Professor Pusić was engaged in other activities – he prepared scientific conferences, lectures, public debates – and was active in many other fields.
