Abstract

The paper presents objects owned by the singer Milka Trnina, which make part of the Collection of Non-European countries at the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb, and are linked to the collector William Sturgis Bigelow. Short biographies of M. Trnina and W. S. Bigelow are outlined here in order to point to the attachment between them and the items and to contextualize the whole. In the same time the paper describes the earliest beginnings of the Collection of Non-European Cultures in the frames of the National Museum in Zagreb and discusses the representation of museum objects which belong to world cultures in the founding collections of the Ethnographic Museum.
