Contributions on Word Order in the Jezik Periodical

Ljubica Josić

Abstract

This paper focuses on discussions on word order that are, by examining the entire body of texts of the Jezik periodical, found mainly in its first fifteen volumes (1952-1967) when its editor-in-chief was Ljudevit Jonke. Specific characteristics of the word order description are analysed, with special attention paid to the criteria of the description of the position of enclitics in word order and the differences of word order in relation to grammatical and stylistic points of view. For this reason, the analysed contributions are divided into two thematic groups. The goal of this paper is to thoroughly present the role of the Jezik periodical contributions on word order in syntactic research of the Croatian language, especially in viewing the position of the enclitic within the so-called rhetorical word order, because those contributions were never systematically analysed nor described within the programmatic direction of that periodical.
