Abstract
Quaternary-geological research was done from 1948 to 1970,
and during the many years of excavating rich paleontologic and
paleolithic findings were collected. General data about the find
ings, morphological characteristics of the cave, geological con
struction and speleogenesis are shown. The quaternary sediments
are over 12 meters thick, and distributed into 16 strata which
were deposited from the Riss-Wiirm interglacial period until
the Holocene. All the strata contain skeletal remains, and mor-
phometrical studies and coimparisons performed show that in
the taxonomy of this locality 52 genera with 62 species of quater
nary mammals were represented. The sediment deposits in the
Wiirm phase contain the remains of distinct glacial-period fau-
nal communities, while interstadial strata contain animals from
temperate or cold climatic zones. The greater number of skelet
al mammal remains are from animals hunted by paleolithic,
mezolithic, neolithic and eneolithic inhabitants of this cave. On
the basis of the fauna determined of the mammal analyses com
pleted, chronostrati'graphic affiliation is found for each stratum
and it has been possible to reconstruct the paleoecological re-
latioinships of the area for the time that the cave strata were
deposited.
