Abstract

THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE CONTEMPORARY
OF COAL-MINING IN PODRAVIAN PART BILOGORA

In the part of Bilogora which belong to Podravina, we find coal
mainly of tertiary ages. Coal-seams are relatively thin, usually below
a metre. The first three of six coal-seams, exteuding parallely
on hight wares, are mostly exploated, so that in 1985 the exploatation
of the fourth layer starts at the region of Petrovdol. The
coal-fields are located in petrographical sandy and marly structures
and it makes the exploatation difficult.
The tradition of mining in Bilogora was permanent for more
than a century. The aldest coal-mine was considered to be the one
at Glogovac, where »Glogovačka rudarska udruga« was established
in 1869. From then the continuary of the exploatation, with more
or less success, carried on till 1970, when the production stopped
and »Koprivnički ugljenokopi« were shut down. The new exploatation
started in 1983 d. d. RO »Bilokalnik — Koprivnički ugljenokopi
« was founded. The new coal-mine in Petrovdol was opened.
According to the plans, the year 1985 was expected to bring the
production of more than 20 000 tons of coal. So, the coal-mining in
Bilogora started the process of revitalization.
This paper shows the cronology of the development of all coal-
-mines in the podravian part of Bilogora. The historical materials
are alassified in three periods of time: 1. From the beginings till
the first world war, 2. The periods between the two wars, and 3. The
development from 1945 till 1970 and the revitalisation during the
past few years.
