Abstract

Mould design for injection moulding of thermoplastic melts is becoming an increasingly complicated task, so that even experienced mould designers could have problems. One of the most important phases of mould design is the conceptual mould design, and the mould designer must pay special attention to this phase. The approach to the conceptual mould design phase is usually based on the designer's experience, which can lead him to some raw mould design faults which are later very difficult to correct. One of the possible solutions for this problem is the application of the morphological mould matrix and decision diagrams, which can guide the designer to the solution for certain partial mould functions. Decision diagrams are especially important for young and less experienced mould designers, because with their application mould design faults can be avoided in an early phase of mould development.
