Beginning with the second half of the nineteenth century, Pola / Pula underwent a period of true renewal completely related to the affirmation of its extraordinary military value, its mighty arsenal, its particularly well-known military plants and strong fortifications defending the entire town, with most of its naval fleet moored within its gulf.
