Abstract

Small electric DC motors are often used in machines and devices. Simple way to control DC motor speed is by changing motor voltage without measuring of motor speed. In case of unknown motor mechanical load, open loop control cannot ensure good speed control. Closed loop speed control of small DC motor, shown in this article, is implemented with Arduino Uno development board and digital PID regulator from an Arduino program library. Digital-analog conversion, amplification and signal offset circuits are implemented. Speed feedback is measured using an auxiliary small DC motor. DC motor speed variation is recorded for different parameters of PID regulator. For satisfactory DC motor speed response, parameters of PID regulator are shown.
