ENVIRONMENTAL ORIENTATION OF THE FORESTRY PROFESSION

Abstract

The work brings out the results of the sociological research made in December 1992 and January 1993 in the Public Enterprise "Croatian Forests". The sample covers 265 respondents of the forestry profession. The questionnaire consisted of the instruments to measure the attitudes towards nature preservation, towards the forest as a resource, towards the degree of pollution, development of agriculture and production as well as towards the modern technologies and sciences.
Factor analysis has extracted six significant varimax factors which are representing the environmental orientations of the forestry profession: 1) life in harmony with nature, 2) sustainable development, 3) development of the economy with the environment protection and full engagement in woods protection, 4) recycling and rural orientation, 5) development, 6) computerization and technical development.
