Abstract

Within the paradigm of sustainable development the plea for quality of living is expressed also as quality of dwelling and quality of dwelling place. Health and ecological aspects are of importance in defining and determining objectives, criteria, operational and exploitative demands. On the one hand, it is the unfulfillment of minimal existential needs that postulates the operationalization of general principles, and on the other, demands of living in the postindustrial era. The problems come up as a need to coordinate public and private interests, technical characteristics and means of evaluation. Complex issues of health and ecological aspects of dwelling and their solutions have been profanated, instead of having been approached from a scientific, creative, interdisciplinary and system-oriented perspective. Technical and anthropological principles are expressed as certain discrepancies and dilemmas. Developmental and applied socioecological research is relevant for these issues.
