Abstract

This article presents the results of an empirical research that was performed during 1993/94. on the sample of 99 industrial plants in the region of Central Croatia. There is examined the situation regarding the solution of industrial waste disposal and its quantity, quality, and with concern to the industry, regarding its part in the environmental protection. The research is carried out by a survey consisting of 19 questions. The respondents evaluated their waste in five categories: inorganic, organic, and dangerous waste, waste silt, waste oils. The problem of waste disposal is solved in several different procedures; it is being removed by municipal service and disposed at municipal waste disposal site, disposed in the factory area (with no control), within the factories are working small incineration plants, i.e. waste disposal site, and some industries process their waste and regenerate it by themselves, while some of them are selling it. The control of waste is being carried out very seldom, and only big industrial corporations have their own departments for environmental protection. This research confirmed the fact that scientific co–operation and investments in environmental protection depend not as much upon the financial capabilities, as upon the environmental consciousness of the management.
