Abstract
The nociceptive stimulus which irradiates from the blocked intervertebral joint
("referred pain") in the pertaining viscera l segment, can deceive that it is a question of an
internal disease.
On the other hand, with internal diseases the reflexive peripheral changes and the
pain which irradiates into the spine, may mislead that it is a question ofprimary vertebral
disturbances.
The knowledge of a segmenta! inervation, pseudoradicular syndromes and manual
functional check-up, helps the physician in many unclear cases to differentiate a
primary disturbance in the segment. A manipulative therapy is indicated and efficient
with a pseudoradicular pain in internal organs (causal therapy) and with internal diseases,
by effecting the reflexive changes, can decrease the intensity of subject ive discomforts
(symptomatic therapy).
Reflexive peripheral changes with the angina pectoris and the vertebrocardial
syndrome, illustrate well the complex vertebrovisceral relations.
