Abstract

Clinical disturbances appear in only lO% of patients having the cervical rib.
Although it is a question of a congenital anomaly, the disturbances are rare before the
ags of 15.
The majority of authors consider that the disturbances occur due to the ossification
process in the cervical rib and the decrease in the tissue elasticity. In many cases
such explication is insufficient. I have tried to solve the questions in this syndrome by
functional analysis of certain elements contained in the pathogenic chain. I have estimated
the parameters of clinical investigations (the pathogenic chain) on the basis of
anatomical relations of the cervical rib with the nei gb boring structures. According to the
investigation results, an insufficient function in the C6/C7 and C7 !TH l segments is
directly responsible for the occurrence of symptoms caused by the cervical rib.
As long as the function in these "cue" spina! segments is preserved, the cervical
rib remains in most cases totally asymptomatic.
