Abstract

The paper presents a review of library classification systems used at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine Central Medical Library and the Andrija Štampar Library, and gives an insight into the classification schemes most commonly used in classification of medical publications. Special emphasis is placed on the NLM (National Library of Medicine) classification system which is nowadays used by most medical libraries in Croatia and in the world. Also, we point out that subject indexing using the MeSH thesaurus is closely linked to NLM and LC (Library of Congress) classification systems.
