Abstract

The bony, ligamentous, muscular and neurovascular structures of the cervical
spine, with the exception of the first two cervlical vertebrae, are described. The
importance of uncovertebral and small apophyseal joints in respect to the functioning
of the cervical spine is pointed out. These joints, in addition to the
intervertebral disk, make the fiive chef points of supprot of the functional dynamic
segment of this region. The knowledge of the topography of the spinal
fOJ·amen is vital for the diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of the painful
syndromes of the cervical spine, which are becoming increasiJngly numerous in
the population. Finally, the role of ligamentous and muscular structures in the
dynamic equilibrium of the head and the cervical spine is emphasized.
