Abstract

For the first time was analyzed weather situation during a large forest fire in the continental part of Croatia. In the fire from March 22 to 27, on Mount Strahinjčica, located northeast of the city of Krapina, was burned about 350 hectares and is considered the largest fire in Krapinsko-zagorska County. Through the analysis were studied which weather conditions in the continental part of Croatia are responsible for occurrence and development of the forest fire and whether they are similar to the conditions in the Adriatic area. Specificity of the fire is that it broke out far before from the start of the fire season. It was shown that the most favorable weather situation for occurr-ance and development of the forest fire started pelnuti-mate day when the fire was already extinguished. According to that, it is conclueded that the human carelessness was responsable for the fire ie. the burning of weeds in the spring but wisdom and dexterity of the firefighters prevented the disaster.
