Abstract

The use of advantages and possibilities of railway infrastructure will be enabled by an appropriate development within the TEN-T Trans-European network, in line with obligations, i.e. requirements of the European regulations and the needs or expectations of operators. Among key obligations of the European regulations, the following is included: Regulation concerning a European Rail Network for Competitive Freight (EU) No. 913/2010, Regulation (EU) on Union guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport network, Regulation (EU) No. 1316/2013 establishing the Connecting Europe Facility, Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1299/2014 on the technical specifications for interoperability relating to the ‘infrastructure’ subsystem of the rail system in the European Union, and other regulations. Considering strategic needs, among which there is also the need to harmonize corridors with freight transport, the operators expect railway lines of bigger parameters to be designed (gauge, axle load, long trains) in line with technical interoperability specifi cations (TSI), which are connected with
the “infrastructure” subsystem.
