Abstract

Secondary prevention after the acute myocardial infarction includes procedures to prevent the occurrence of new cardiovascular events. In addition to lifestyle changes and participation in cardiovascular rehabilitation, the current guidelines recommend the administration of antiplatelet agents (continuous administration of acetylsalicylic acid and another antiplatelet drug, as indicated), high dose of statins, ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers. Clinically efficient procedures presented in this article ensure quality of treatment after the myocardial infarction, reduce early mortality, prolong life expectancy and improve the quality of life, facilitate recovery and create trust in the health care system.
