Abstract
The paper presents studies on the influence of new technologies, especially automation and robotics, on employment and occupation.
The necessity of increased investment in research and development is emphasized, as they are essential drivers of economic growth and society’s progress.
Without education there is no such progress, and knowledge is a long-term goal for each society not only as a requirement of progress, but also as a philosophy of life. The situation in the EU
regarding the (future of) research and development and education funding is presented. The position of Croatia is shown on the scale of this funding in the context of other EU countries.
The rapid development of technology and new knowledge requires lifelong learning and education.
This necessitates that the institutions ensure adequate conditions in terms of the overall system of education and the recognition of non-formal and informal education.
