Abstract

The paper presents the contents of the report provided by Don Mato Štuk, School Superintendent and Dean of Pelješac, to the Spiritual Seat of the Dubrovnik Bishopric, in which he reports on the schooling circumstances in his deanery. The information provided in the report (the number of students, teachers’ names, conduct and learning success, school premises, local superintendents) allow for the reconstruction of the condition of primary school education and school circumstances on the peninsula of Pelješac in 1857, at which time four junior primary schools in Orebić, Trpanj, Županje Selo and Janjina, and three ancillary schools in Crna Gora, Viganj and Vrućica were inspected. A transcript of the original in the Italian language is attached to the paper.
