Abstract

This article is divided into five parts. In the first part the author talks about the unexpected stay of Francis of Assisi in Croatia. The second part discusses various legends associated with Francis’ residing in our region, while the third part presents historical foundation of the monastery in Trogir, the first Fran­ ciscan monastery in our region. The following parts, third and fourth, present spreading of Franciscan movement in the costal and continental Croatia and, finally, the first province which Friars Minor and their monasteries belonged to, putting forward, in contrast to the old and traditional views, a new view on the issue of the Franciscan Province on Croatian soil.
