Abstract

In the 19th century people already knew that the church of St Blasius in Vodnjan was modelled on Venice Cathedral. Analyzing architectural properties the author established that St Blasius is based on a "comment" on Venice Cathedral, used by Giorgio Massari to design the parish church Palazzo sull' Oglio near Brescia. St Blasius may have been designed by Massari's pupil, the Venetian architect Bernardino Maccaruzzi (1728-1800). The author placed the church of St Blasius in Vodnjan in the group of buildings that originated from the architecture of Venice Cathedral.
