Abstract

The Glagolitic Canonical table of 1637. A contribution to Levaković´s Bibliography
The author describes the other (the first being Juranić´s edition) well-known edition of Glagolitic tables published by R. Levaković (Rome, Propaganda Fide 1637, page dim. 41x34 cm., the only known copy is preserved in BAV, Stamp. Chigi II 1080 /int. 87/). Levaković printed the tables before his journey to Vienna and Senj in the begining of 1637. and he dedicated them to I. K. Agatić the bishop of Senj. At that time he hoped that Agatić would renounce the bishop´s position in his behalf. The edition consists of only one table which is incomplete as it lacks the prayer said during the mixing of water and wine: Bože, iže človečaskago suĉastva... (Deus, qui humanae substantiae...) Comparing the texts and the rubrics from the Latin protograph, i. e. the Roman Missal pf Pio V (=RM), with Lekaković's Missal (=LM), the Canonical tables of 1637(=LT) and Juranić's tables (=JT) the author concludes that LT preserve the language abd the ortography of LM although both works show certain inconsistancies. RM served as the protograph and was often literarly translated. JT was s deluxe edition and had to be printed on three separate sheets. The first tables (LT) served as a protograph for later editions.
